Mexico (Washington Insider Magazine)—On Wednesday, the White House stated it was working with Mexico’s government to settle border issues. Earlier, border tension recently led the Biden administration to close two rail crossings at the Texas-Mexico border. Growing numbers of migrants use it to enter the U.S.

U.S. President Joe Biden also spoke to his Mexican counterpart Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. The purpose of the call was that two could discuss migration, amid concerns about raised border crossings and disturbances to trade.

Further, Lopez Obrador told a press conference Biden requested the call. When questioned what the two would discuss, Lopez Obrador said: “I think migration. Let’s see what he proposes to us.” Biden is pursuing re-election next year. He has been under sustained political pressure to restrain record numbers of people attempting to cross illegally at the U.S.-Mexico border.

On Wednesday, dozens of major U.S. agricultural groups also demanded the U.S. reopen the route. They stated the closures of the railroad trade routes were causing abrupt export losses to U.S. farmers.

The farm groups expressed that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency must reopen the rail bridges with as few as five employees per crossing. It challenged the agency’s explanation for closing down the train routes.

On Wednesday, a White House spokesperson said the U.S. was working closely with the Mexican government. It is aimed to resolve this issue while surging personnel to the area.”

“We are communicating regularly with industry leaders to ensure we are assessing and mitigating the impacts of these temporary closures,” the spokesperson said.

The White House also reiterated that U.S. Homeland Security Department officials shut down the two crossings to “stop a significant movement of migrants coming by rail and protect its personnel’s health and safety.”

Recently, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas left closed-door discussions with congressional leaders. It has been noted that dozens of migrants from Senegal, Guinea, and Mexico stepped into the  Arizona border. They were looking to surrender to agents. Shockingly, a Mexican woman walked in with her two daughters and five grandchildren. They were being dropped off by a bus in Mexico and directed by guides.

“Our officers and agents are responding to large groups of migrants, which means that some of our agents aren’t on the line, not monitoring for some of those cuts,” said Troy Miller, U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s acting commissioner. “If we don’t have anybody to respond, then you’re going to see what you’re seeing.”

The number of daily arrivals is “unprecedented,” Miller said. It has been observed that illegal crossings topped 10,000 some days across the border in December. On Monday, In response to this, CBP suspended cross-border rail traffic in the Texas cities of Eagle Pass and El Paso. Migrants were traveling freight trains through Mexico, jumping off just before entering the U.S.

Moreover, Arrests for illegal crossings topped 2 million for the first time in the history of the U.S. government for the last two years. It portrays technological changes that have improved global mobility. It encourages ills people to leave their homes. It is due to wealth inequality, natural disasters, political repression, and organized crime.
