Ryan Day holds a Master's degree in Balkan, Eurasian, and Central European studies from Charles University in Prague. He holds a Bachelor's degree in International Studies and Russian Area Studies from Hope College in Holland, Michigan. When not working, Ryan enjoys snowboarding in the Colorado Rocky Mountains and international travel. He has visited 24 countries to date.
Claire Healy holds a degree in political science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She studies and is conversant in Arabic and Spanish, and has lived in Amman, Jordan and Havana, Cuba. She is the founder and Editor in Chief of the international, multilingual magazine The Open, and is dedicated to building relationships and collaboration across borders and the global promotion of human rights.
Arnel Husrefovic is from South Burlington, Vermont. His family immigrated from Bosnia Herzegovina. He is currently studying Political Science and Legal Studies at American University in Washington, DC.
Lindsay Morris is a creative producer of events, campaigns, stories and strategies. In 2013, she moved from her native Australia to New York and became the Director of Engagement at Girl Rising. Since then, Lindsay has gone on to consult on a wide range of film projects including Playground, Bill Nye: Science Guy, and Gleason, which was hailed by Rolling Stone as "the most inspiring documentary of the year." Lindsay also served as Executive Director of The Nantucket Project since 2016. In 2020, she launched her own consulting firm to provide creative and strategic guidance to nonprofits of all kinds. Lindsay is also a co-founder of Frack Theatre, whose works have been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and NewsWeek.
Mark Raczkiewycz is an award-winning journalist who has worked for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. Additionally, he has either written for or contributed to the New York Times, Financial Times, Irish Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Associated Press and other international outlets. His reporting for more than 15 years has taken him to war zones and two revolutions in Ukraine, NATO and media conferences in Brussels and Sweden, and to looting scenes during social unrest in Chicago. He is fluent in Russian and Ukrainian and is a native Chicagoan who enjoys reading, playing chess and rollerblading.
Ryan Scherba served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Kosovo from 2015 to 2017. He has a passion for Central-Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans. He is currently the Director of Balkan Insider and writes extensively about U.S. foreign policy in Europe. Ryan obtained his bachelor’s in International Affairs and German Language from Marquette University and his master’s in International Affairs from the Institute of World Politics.

Maia Comeau is a public affairs leader with over 20 years of experience in international government relations strategy, institution and public influence building, leadership development and event planning in the US and Europe. Maia served for twelve years at the German Marshall Fund of the United States where she founded both the Congressional Affairs department, in 2004, and the Richard G. Lugar Institute for Diplomacy and Congress in 2013. Under her leadership, the congressional affairs department grew to include seven professional staff, with an operating budget of $1.2 million. The department handled a variety of programs designed to educate Congress on transatlantic policy, beginning with it’s flagship program The Congress Bundestag Forum, which brought Members of Congress and Members of the German Bundestag together for a week each year alternating between Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich and Washington. She is graduate of the 2016 class of Presidential Leadership Scholars, led by Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. She has been awarded fellowships with the Bucerius Young Leader Summer School on Global Governance; American Council on Germany; the Draeger Foundation; and, the American Israel Education Foundation. She currently serves on the Board of IMMAP and is a Senior Fellow with the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress and The Lugar Center. She is a graduate of Penn State University.
Based in Washington, Ari Mittleman works at the nexus of politics, policy and the press. He has upward of 15 years of leadership and management experience thriving in high-impact, mission-driven settings. Over the course of more than eight years, Ari held various senior roles with a United States Senator. He is self taught and conversant in Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian. He has a deep understanding of the Balkan reconstruction and reconciliation process having lived and worked in the region. He is the Founder and Publisher of Balkan Insider. He was founding board chairman of the award winning St. Bernard Project in Chalmette, Louisiana and active volunteer with the Alzheimer's Association and leader with Thread.org
