Jenin/West Bank Refugee Camp Attacked (2023), Transatlantic Today

Middle East (Washington Insider Magazine) –  The Jenin/West Bank refugee camp has been attacked for the second time in the past seven days, causing protests to break out throughout the region. The level of violence has reached a fevered pitch, reminding many of the attacks that were seen at the turn of the 21st century.

Here’s what you need to know about the West Bank refugee camp attack.

Who Attacked The West Bank Refugee Camp?

Israeli forces have been noted as the confirmed attackers at the most recent West Bank refugee camp outbreak of violence, which accrued a body count of 12 — at least three of which were children.

While those killed were of Palestinian descent, many sources on-ground confirm that morale is still high as the war continues to rage between local Palestinian forces and the Israeli occupation soldiers.

What Will Happen In The Wake Of West Bank Refugee Camp Attacks?

The level of violence that has occurred in the West Bank refugee camp attacks is unparalleled to anything recent. Many throughout the region are comparing it to attacks that were seen back in the early 2000s, which were gruesome and targeted specifically at young men.

As a result, Palestinian officials and community members are calling on human rights organizations for support, attempting to publicize the attack as an Israeli forces-fueled war crime. While they have not yet been successful in any official capacity, many support groups are continuing to amplify the message due to the noted attack’s scale.

What Was The Attack Like?

There have been many varying accounts of the attack, with some describing violence in the form of shooting, lethal use of bulldozers and support prevention to those who were harmed in the attack.

Many have wondered what the true motive was behind the attack to begin with. While there isn’t yet a confirmed and publicized cause, many do believe that there is a link to the U.S.’s support for Israel and their recent attack against the Palestine forces.

What Does The Future Hold For Local Palestine Occupants?

At the moment, there have been over 3,000 Palestinians that have left the Jenin camp in fear for their lives, returning to a demolished home space and little to no belongings. We will continue to cover the event and subsequent events, as Israel has been public about their plans to return to the area.
