The GOP sinks deeper into the Trump rabbit hole

The GOP sinks deeper into the Trump rabbit hole, Transatlantic Today

Washington, (Transatlantic Today) – The Republican National Committee threatened to keep its 2024 presidential nominee from partaking in the traditional election debates until the events are modified more to the GOP’s liking.

Ronna McDaniel, RNC Chairwoman, stated, “If the [Commission on Presidential Debates] seems determined on denying the significant reforms required to repair its ethos with the GOP as an acceptable and nonpartisan performer, the RNC shall take each step to guarantee that future Republican presidential nominees receive that chance elsewhere.”

At the core of McDaniel’s requests is for the RNC to have more voice in who moderates the debates. That request mirrors former President Donald Trump’s criticisms regarding the 2020 debate moderators, who, he urged sans any objective evidence, were prejudiced against him.

Trump declined to partake in the second debate in 2020 following the Commission’s decision to hold it virtually to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

“They altered the debate format, and that’s not satisfactory to [the GOP],” Trump stated at the moment, further stating: “I beat [Biden] in the first debate. I beat him easily.”

This scheme from the RNC is the newest proof that the GOP appears ultimately at comfort with following Trump — who’s frequently hinted a goal to run for POTUS again in 2024 — down each conspiracy theory rabbit hole.

Formed in 1987, The Commission on Presidential Debates has existed as a nonpartisan institution that has chosen to remain almost completely behind the scenes and anonymous.

Frank Fahrenkopf is of the Commission’s two co-chairmen; he functioned as the director of the RNC between 1983 and 1989. (Kenneth Wollack, the other co-chair, is a foreign policy specialist with a backdrop in journalism.)

There’s no evidence pertaining to the allegations of prejudice from Trump from the Commission. And however, the RNC is currently throwing its weight behind this unevidenced claim via the former President because the Republican Party is showing over and over again that there’s no GOP aside from Trump since 2016.

Bottom line: This activity from the RNC shows as another instance of Trump’s triumphant deterioration of any logic that nonpartisan bodies can (and do) live. For DJT, everybody is either against or for him — and he’s chosen that the Commission on Presidential Debates is against him.
