Washington DC (Washington Insider Magazine) —  Roger Marshall is an American politician and physician. He represents the 1st congressional district of Kansas in the US House of Representatives. He is a staunch supporter of the conservative agenda and has been a member of the Republican party since 2003. Throughout his successful political career, he has also maintained a balanced personal life.

 He has been a member of the United States House of Representatives since 2017. Marshall was represented as the First District of Kansas. In addition to his political career, he has also been involved in the medical field. He has practiced both family medicine and obstetrics.

Biography

Roger Wayne Marshall was born on August 9, 1960. He is an American politician, physician, and former military officer. He has served as the junior United States senator from Kansas since 2021. Marshall was born in El Dorado, Kansas. He attended Butler Community College. Roger went to Kansas State University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. He was also a member of the Beta Theta Pi. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas.

After earning his degree, he practiced residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Florida. Marshall served as the chairman of the board of Great Bend Regional Hospital and vice president of the Farmers Bank and Trust. He has also served as the district governor of Rotary International. Roger also served seven years in the United States Army Reserve, reaching the rank of captain. 

Early Political Career

Roger Marshall’s political career has been a long and winding road. After graduating from Kansas State University with a degree in veterinary medicine in 1988, he began his career as a veterinarian in Garden City, Kansas. During this time, he also served as the president of the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association. In 2002, he was elected to the Kansas House of Representatives and served three terms before being elected to the Kansas State Senate in 2008.

In this role, he became a staunch proponent of fiscal responsibility and limited government. In 2016, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. He has been serving Kansas’s First Congressional District ever since. His dedication to his constituents has been unwavering and he has worked to bring much-needed resources to the district. COVID-19 Pandemic

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Marshall promoted conspiracy theories. These theories falsely suggest that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were responsible for inflating coronavirus death numbers. Facebook removed Marshall’s posts from its platform as they considered it a violation of its rule against “harmful misinformation”. Roger called Facebook’s removal of his misinformation “corporate censorship”.

Marshall believes in the effectiveness of masks in preventing the spread of the coronavirus. He opposes face mask mandates and appeared at indoor campaign events without a face mask. The maskless crowds also did not observe social distancing.

During the pandemic, Marshall promoted the prophylactic use of hydroxychloroquine which is an antimalarial drug. The drug was promoted by Trump. This drug has been unproven as an effective treatment. There have been government warnings about using it outside research or hospital settings. Roger revealed that he used the drug to proactively guard against the virus.

Personal Life

Marshall is currently living in Great Bend, Kansas. This place is where he practiced medicine. Marshall is a married man and has four children. He is married to his wife Laina and the couple seem to be very much in love. 

On January 31, 2018, Marshall was a passenger on a chartered Amtrak train that got involved in a 2018 Crozet, Virginia train crash. Roger administered first aid and CPR to the injured.
