WASHINGTON (Washington Insider Magazine) – After testing negative for Covid for several days in a succession, President Joe Biden tested positive for Covid again on Saturday in a “rebound” case, according to a statement from his doctor.
According to White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor, 79-year-old Biden has not had any recurrence of symptoms and is still feeling OK.
The doctor said, “He will, however, return to strict isolation procedures.”
According to a White House representative, contact tracing is being done to identify close contacts.
According to her press secretary, Kirsten Allen, Vice President Kamala Harris is not regarded as a close contact and tested negative for Covid-19 on Friday.
On July 21, during a routine test, Biden, who has had all of his vaccinations and has had two boosters, tested positive for Covid. He was then treated with the antiviral Paxlovid, according to NBC NEWS.
A tiny percentage of Paxlovid users have a rebound effect. In Pfizer’s clinical research, 1% to 2% of subjects who had previously tested negative for the coronavirus developed coronavirus infection. Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House Covid response coordinator, stated at a recent press conference that the drug’s rebound rates among the tens of thousands of individuals who have used it in real-world circumstances are approximately 5%.
In May, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a warning about potential recurrences and advised those who tested positive again to restart isolation for at least 5 days because they could still be infectious.
Wednesday marked the end of his 5-day isolation. O’Connor reported his symptoms had nearly entirely disappeared at the time.
On Thursday, Biden spoke in the State Dining Room and took part in a roundtable discussion with government representatives and several CEOs. He didn’t cover his face at either occasion.
According to advice from the CDC, a White House representative stated on Saturday that Biden will wear a mask with other people through Day 10.
Biden underwent Paxlovid rebound, according to Dr. Anthony Fauci, Biden’s main medical advisor, who had Covid in June.
