Biography

Bennet was born on 28th November 1964. He was born and raised in Washington, D.C. His father worked as an aide to Vice President Hubert Humphrey. Bennet attended St. Albans School, which was an exclusive all-boys prep school, and worked as a page on Capitol Hill. He received his Juris Doctorate from Yale Law School in 1993. Michael worked as the editor-in-chief of the Yale Law Journal.

Career

Michael Bennet worked as an assistant to Ohio governor Richard Celeste from 1988 till 1990. After serving for a few years he left to enroll at Yale. After graduating from law school, Michael worked as an associate for Washington, the D.C. attorney Lloyd Cutler. He was also a law clerk for the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Bennet worked for the Bill Clinton administration and was the counsel for the deputy attorney general. His father, Douglas Bennet, also served as the Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs when the Clinton administration was in full swing. Bennet left the legal field and moved to the West after he had served as the U.S. attorney’s assistant in Connecticut.

He briefly lived in Montana and relocated with his fiancé to Colorado in 1997. Bennet served as the Colorado Governor Bill Ritter in 2009. He took Ken Salazar’s place in the U.S. Senate, which was vacated by Salazar. Bennet was chosen by the well-known Colorado Democrats, and he accepted the position with Hickenlooper’s approval.

He is the youngest senator in the 111th United States Congress and held the position for five days until Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was appointed. Michael has declared that he will take part in the reelection in 2010, which will be the end of Salazar’s term.

Bennet spoke about maintaining federal funding and promoted Planned Parenthood. He also supports the right to an abortion. When Roe v. Wade was rejected in June 2022, Bennet promoted this decision and concluded it as an “activist decision”. He also claimed that the “radical majority on the Supreme Court demolished fifty years of precedent.”

Bennet is one of the 38 senators who signed a letter to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue and sent a warning to the dairy farmers who had continued to experience market instability. He supported the farmers who were battling to survive the fourth year of consistently low prices. Bennet aided the farmers and strongly encouraged these farmers to think about the Dairy Margin Coverage program.
