His parents were Cubans who had immigrated to the United States in 1956. Rubio’s parents were not U.S. citizens at the time of Rubio’s birth but they applied for U.S. citizenship and got naturalized in 1975. Some of his relatives were accepted as refugees by the US government as well.

Rubio’s maternal grandfather, Pedro Victor Garcia, moved to the U.S. legally in 1956, but she returned to Cuba to find work in 1959. He fled communist Cuba and came back to the U.S. in 1962 without a visa.

He was detained and the immigration judge ordered him to be deported. The deportation order was not enforced, and Garcia ended up getting the legal status of “parolee”. This allowed him to stay in the U.S. Rubio had a close relationship with his grandfather during his childhood.

Political Career

Marco Rubio was a member of the Florida House of Representatives. He also took a special part in the Elections and concurrent employment. In late 1999, he participated in the special election and was called to fill the seat for the 111th House District in the Florida House of Representatives.

He represented Miami during that time. This was considered a safe Republican seat, but Rubio’s main challenge was to make sure that he wins the GOP nomination. He campaigned hard and focused on advocating tax cuts and early childhood education.

Rubio won the second position in the Republican primary on December 14, 1999. He also won the runoff election for the Republican nomination while he defeated Angel Zayon who was a television and radio reporter by just 64 votes. Marco then defeated Democrat Anastasia Garcia in the special election.

This created openings for new legislative leaders as many senior incumbents were bound to retire. After Biden defeated Trump in the 2020 presidential election he was awarded a permanent seat. Trump made false claims of election fraud, and at that time Rubio defended Trump’s right to assert his claims and challenge the election results.

Rubio had a strong opinion on the agenda and described the 2021 United States Capitol attack as unpatriotic. He also believed that it was the “3rd world-style anti-American anarchy”. Out of the several rioters, Rubio said that most of them were adherents and were following a conspiracy theory.

As a result, there was a national embarrassment. After Congress allowed him to return to session, Rubio focused on certifying the 2021 United States Electoral College vote count. In 2022, Rubio also voted to acquit Trump because he played an important role in inciting the mob to storm the Capitol.
