(Washington Insider Magazine) – While the fire consumed part of the structure, the butter drained with the drain and river routes, which forced emergency equipment to look for options to contain fat. The level of damage caused is still evaluated.

Fire in The Dairy Plant

A dairy plant caught fire in the center of Wisconsin on Monday night and was initially controlled, but what nobody expected is that the melted content of a storage room full of butter ended up in the drain and cooling, when cooling, It became a huge cap.

According to official data, the thick liquid was leaked in the surrounding storm drains, as well as in a large channel adjacent to the business, which finally obstructed the river route despite the efforts of the crews to contain the propagation.

The fire exploded in a dairy processing and packaging owned by Associated Milk Producers Inc. in Portage, Wisconsin, a small city located approximately 50 miles north of Madison, around 9 p.m. local time, the Portage Fire Department wrote.

Firefighters sent to the scene that night reported dense smoke and visible fire on the roof of the several -story concrete structure when they arrived. The authorities said the response teams initially could not access the building because “they were pushed back by heat and smoke.”

The authorities determined that the fire began inside a room at the plant where the butter was stored and that the runoff occurred as a result of the increase in heat throughout the building. The cause of the fire itself remains under investigation, said the fire department. No injured were reported in relation to the incident.

After working to combat the fire for “several hours”, the firefighters from several departments of the area could contain and extinguish the fire “before it could extend beyond the firewalls and throughout the building”, the Portage Fire Department , emphasized that “the runoff of butter and dense smoke slowed access to the structure.”

Given the situation, barriers and other absorbents were placed to control the runoff according to the Fire Department, it will now be a turn of the Natural Resources Department to assess the damage to the drains and river routes.
