New York(Washington Insider Magazine) – A dozen of resolutions on human rights in UAE, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, and Syria are being adopted through legislative terms. It is initiated with the help of a prominent political group and prominent MEPs. The foreign affairs committee is leaving no stone unturned to provide benefits to the Government of the UAE. Abu Dhabi is extremely paranoid and trying to become more aggressive in fighting for the Muslim Brotherhood.

The policy advisor is dealing with foreign affairs keeping in mind the interests of the UAE. This has become a typical scenario since Michèle Alliot-Marie was the chairman of the European Parliament.  Alliot-Marie who is the former French Minister is also dealing with the formidable network efficiently. During her entire career, she was having a lot of meetings with the Gulf ministers. The foreign affairs and ambassadors including the Emiratis are gaining fruitful results.

All the leading MEPs and nonprofit organizations from European Union are siding with UAE for various matters. Whenever the parliament wants to pass a petition to criticize Bahrain and its authorities, Alliot Marie supports the Gulf States. The leading MEPs come from four different political groups. They all have signed a letter not to refrain from any regret over the Bahraini opposition. The boycott was majorly going on due to legitimate democratic concerns and repression.

Bahrain doesn’t offer much support to Saudi Arabia in terms of arms. They do this only to keep up a good relationship with the European Union members. Alliot is currently named as an expert when it comes to dealing with Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research.

Support For UAE Political Groups

As the European MEPs are siding with the political groups it is giving an upper hand to the Emirates. They can influence the voting behavior in the Parliament. However, the result will always be aligned with the interests of the UAE. Mick WALLACE and Urmas PAET are dealing with the voting patterns by teaming up with those who can favor the Gulf.

During the current legislative system, a resolution on the case of Ahmad Mansoor in the United Arab Emirates was introduced. Another resolution was passed on for Yemen in 2021. MEPs and NGOs must come up with a detailed report on arms exports. With the help of various influential members, UAE has gotten full support for the implementation of foreign and security policy.

The center-right EPP, conservative ECR, and far-right parties are influencing the other others to align everything in the favor of the UAE. Even the voting behavior is reflective of the Emirati’s interests. If that isn’t enough same is the case of Christian democrats. Many liberals are divided because some of them are aligning with the UAE.

At the national level, the situation is no different. All the members from center-right, conservative and right-wing parties are in favor of the UAE. When it comes to France they are ready to support the Emiratis with the highest number of votes.

Voting Behavior of MEPs

The voting behavior of MEPs and the current legislative term is focusing heavily on the interests of the UAE. They want to build up a closer relationship with the gulf as they want to obtain some money in return. Additionally, the member of the EU-UAE Friendship group includes plenty of influential people.

The list includes the chairs and vice-chairs of the foreign affairs committee (AFET) and the trade committee. While the human rights subcommittee (DROI), and the delegation for relations with the Arab Peninsula (DARP) are also on the list. Marie-Pierre VEDRENNEHenna VIRKKUNEN, and Caroline NAGTEGAAL are some prominent members.

EP Plenary session – EU Trade Policy Review

In October 2018, the European Parliament came up with a resolution for the adverse situation of Ahmed Mansoor. As he was sentenced to 10 years in prison his crime seemed to be more than that. However, the Emirati lobby started to intervene in this situation.

The foreign policy advisor made sure that UAE intensifies their effort and ensure that the resolution doesn’t make an impact. UAE doesn’t offer freedom of speech and human rights to people in general. However, they need to put a good image to bluff people all over the world. This is where NGOs and MEPs come to support UAE.
