(Washington Insider Magazine)-Freespoke is a new Google alternative that launched earlier this year.
Todd Ricketts, the man who launched Freespoke and former Republican National Committee finance chair, said that he launched Freespoke because he believes all Americans must help protect free speech.
Ricketts wanted to make changes because he believes that things like the National Rifle Association were being buried on more traditional search engines. Ricketts has found free speech attacked on a continuous basis by big tech by removing whatever content they deem inappropriate or bad for their platforms.
He believes that free speech is the most fundamental and important part of our society and that no one, no matter who you are, has the right to take that from someone else.
Ricketts says that the industry needs more competition, and many would agree as more and more social media platforms are appearing to counter the big shots like Instagram and Youtube.
It is important for the American people to remember that Big Tech companies should not have the same power as government institutions because they are not.
Ricketts is concerned that many have no idea who is pulling the strings at the Tech giants because nothing is shared or transparent about their running. He is uncertain whether the executives are intentionally leaning results towards the left, but he has noticed a trend where most things deleted or censored have had a conservative leaning.
According to the Freespoke site, its privacy-friendly analytics tool is designed to encourage everyone to find out what is going on before they form an opinion about the topic.
After launching in August with 500,000 users, Freespoke has increased by an average of 51% per month and did so with little advertising. While he is aware that having a search engine with free speech appeals to right-leaning people, he believes that everyone, no matter their political views, would prefer Freespoke if given the chance.
In a bid at making Freespoke more family-friendly, pornography and other adult content are banned. This decision was made due to Ricketts wanting the search engine to be a place where everyone can consume news and information.
We look forward to seeing where Freespoke goes from here.
