Florida Department of Health joins fight against trans youth care

Florida Department of Health joins fight against trans youth care, Transatlantic Today

FLORIDA (Washington Insider Magazine) –  Following the footsteps of numerous major Republican led states throughout the nation, the Florida State health Department has issued new guidelines confirming its opposition to gender affirming care for transgender youth.

The US Department of Health and Human Services was criticized by the department, which had announced its determination to “protecting and supporting” transgender youth, their families, and guardians.

According to Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, the federal government’s medical system issuing guidelines that fails at even the most basic standard of academic rigor reveals that it was never about health care.

He stated that the HHS’ decision to preserve gender affirming care was motivated by a desire to infuse political ideology into the children’s health.

The decision was lambasted by Sarah Lovenheim, the assistant secretary of public relations at the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Following a move by Texas lawmakers declaring gender affirming treatment “child abuse,” HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra revealed efforts the government was doing to safeguard the rights of families with LGBTQ youngsters in March.

When clinically appropriate and required, HHS published recommendations that gender affirming treatment for kids enhances their mental and physical health.

According to the Florida Department of Health, social gender change should never be an alternative for adolescents or children, and hormone treatment or puberty blockers should not be provided to individuals under the age of 18.

Gender transition surgery should not be seen as a treatment solution for children or adolescents, according to the report.

Rather, the department advises transgender youth to seek social counselling and assistance.

Hormone therapy and puberty blockers, according to the state government, can cause a lag in brain development, as well as cardiovascular problems, infertility, osteoporosis, increased risk of cancer, and thrombosis.

Several experts who responded to ABC News refuted this notion, saying that these possible side effects only offer genuine dangers after puberty has essentially begun but are not a threat to youngsters using puberty blockers.

They further claim that physical gender transition procedures are not performed on teenagers.

The state of Florida’s decision was immediately condemned by LGBTQ activists.
