(Washington Insider Magazine) -After a disappointing midterm election result, the Republican National Committee will move forward with a post-midterm election audit. Contrary to opinion, the election is not over until the election results are certified. The Republican National Committee welcomes the undertaking of such a task. It’s been over a decade since this was last attempted.
As with any post-election audit, the auditing committee will check the electronic equipment used and the procedures used to count votes during important elections, such as the 2022 midterms. The process used to count votes electronically is examined thoroughly to see if the system works properly and to prove the validity of the final number of election votes.
Why Is a Midterm Election Audit Being Sought?
Depending on the state and different procedures used during the election, paper ballots and error-prone human recordings of paper votes are equally thoroughly examined. Not all paper ballots are physically re-counted, but only a portion of those paper ballots are examined to satisfy the voting system’s accuracy.
The post-election audit usually investigates such items as votes counted, candidate qualification concerns, and government involvement in neglecting to recognize early voting. However, there is confusion on the scope of details being reviewed with the 2022 mid-term election.
What Happens if Errors are Found in the Election Audit for Midterms
If voter errors are found by the Republican National Committee, a complete recount of votes could be conducted. However, a recount is most typically issued if the margin of victory is close but can take place if error discrepancies cause great concern.
The election audit will most likely take place over several months with the completion date unknown at this time.
Republicans brace for difficult questions that the Republican National Committee members will certainly raise. Those assigned to the audit committee say they will not avoid the uncomfortable discussion of the infamous Trump-era presidential election conspiracy theory.
The committee hopes to gain insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the Republican party through its investigation. By asking the difficult questions and issuing the mid-term election audit, the Republican committee will turn it into a positive. The RNC plans to take advantage of gaining insight through their investigation on how to better prepare and strategize for the 2024 upcoming election.
