(Washington Insider Magazine) – The victim was stopped as he was leaving one of the apartments in East Harlem, when an armed suspect opened fire, shooting him in the head at least four times, leaving him lifeless.
Murder of a Man
A man was killed after being shot multiple times in the head in East Harlem in what authorities believe was a gang clash, police said Saturday.
The 25-year-old victim left an apartment on E. 102nd St. near Madison Avenue that is part of the New York City Housing Authority’s (NYCHA) Carver Houses at 10:15 p.m. where a gunman broke in and opened fire, shooting him in the head at least four times before fleeing the scene.
The shooting took place just outside a window of a 14-year-old girl.
“My mom and I heard it,” said the young woman who did not want to be identified. “My mom came into my room, opened the window and saw her body lying on the floor and we saw police around.”
“I was a little scared because I never expected something like this to happen so close,” she said. “That’s really scary.”
Police officers who responded to the scene found the victim on the walkway in front of an apartment building in the NYCHA complex.
So far, his identity has not been released, since the agents located the man’s relatives.
Residents of the area reported that they did not recognize the victim, who may have been visiting the area, the Daily News reported.
Authorities believe the subject was murdered and that street gangs were involved in the crime. The man belonged to Mott Haven Gunnaz, which operates out of Mont Haven Houses in the Bronx, a police source revealed.
Gang violence at NYCHA has been a prevalent problem for quite some time, a resident said.
