Murder at NYCHA

Two men were killed and another wounded by gunfire yesterday at NYCHA buildings in Queens and Brooklyn within hours of each other, in a violent start to the New York work week.

In the first case, at about 11:10 a.m., a 33-year-old man was shot in the head on the grounds of NYCHA’s Ingersoll Houses in Fort Greene, the New York Post reported.

The injured man, identified as Shawn Myers, was taken to Brooklyn Hospital Center, where he was later pronounced dead, New York police said. Another man, Quadire Session (21), was shot in the left hand.

Myers did not live in that building, but apparently visited frequently because he had a girlfriend there, a witness said. The connection between the two victims is not clear.

Later, around 5:32 p.m., a 36-year-old man was fatally shot in front of “Astoria Houses,” causing chaos among passersby. The victim was heading to the housing complex carrying groceries when he was shot in the stomach on Astoria Blvd. near First St., New York police said.

An eyewitness, who declined to be named, told the Daily News that chaos erupted after the shooting. “He was crazy. And it was in broad daylight. All kinds of people running and screaming.”

The unidentified wounded man was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he died approximately an hour later. The shooter fled after the shooting, according to police.

No arrests have been made or suspects identified in any of those cases. Anyone with information should call 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) and in Spanish 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Also through crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or by text to 274637 (CRIMES), followed by TIP577. All communications are strictly confidential.

In a similar incident, last week a gunman wearing a New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) sports uniform shot a young man in the chest in Brooklyn during a visit to his home.

Earlier this month, a 33-year-old father of three was shot to death in the entrance of the NYCHA building where his mother-in-law lives in the Bronx.
