New York (Washington Insider Magazine) – Christopher Scott Murphy is an American lawyer, author, and politician. He has been serving junior United States senator from Connecticut since 2013. Murphy is also a member of the Democratic Party, but he previously served in the United States House of Representatives.
He represented Connecticut’s 5th congressional district from 2007 to 2013. Chris was also elected to Congress and became a member of both chambers of the Connecticut General Assembly. He also served two terms each in the Connecticut House of Representatives.
Early life and Biography
Murphy was born on August 3, 1973, in White Plains, New York. He was born to parents Catherine A. (née Lewczyk) and Scott L. Murphy. Murphy is of polish Irish and Polish descent. His father was a corporate litigator who worked as a managing partner of Shipman & Goodwin, at Hartford law firm. Murphy was a retired ESL teacher at Hanmer Elementary School in Wethersfield, Connecticut.
Murphy graduated from Wethersfield High School. He got his B.A. degree from his father’s alma mater, Williams College. Chris also earned a J.D. degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law. Murphy also studied at the University of Oxford when he was an undergraduate student.
