Manny Cohen, a 79-year-old man, is hospitalized in intensive care after a pair of robbers violently attacked him before stealing $100,000 from his jewelry store in Brooklyn (NYC).
Cohen was closing up the “Roxy” jewelry store on Flatbush Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on December 30 when two men forced their way in and beat him to the brink of death.

Speaking to the New York Post on Wednesday, his son Shawn Cohen described the horror of finding out what had happened to his father after he didn’t come home for dinner on Friday.
“[My father] didn’t return his phone calls, and that led me to check the cameras,” Shawn said. “I saw him being robbed… I saw my father being beaten almost to death.”
Surveillance footage showed the robbers trying to hide the old man’s battered body before spending more than 20 minutes stuffing their pockets with jewelry, the younger Cohen said.
The couple made off with more than $100,000 worth of merchandise, according to the New York police, who released an image of the suspects who remain at large.
For almost a week, the elderly merchant remains hospitalized with a severe brain injury, and the prognosis is still unclear. “They did everything with the intention of killing a 79-year-old man,” he summarized about the robbers.
No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should call 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) and in Spanish 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Also through crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or by text to 274637 (CRIMES), followed by TIP577. All communications are strictly confidential.
End-of-year statistics will show that felony crimes and robberies are up in NYC during 2022, even though homicides are down.
