New York(Washington Insider Magazine) -Joseph Morros, a 27-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of shooting a father in front of his daughter in an Inwood (NYC) warehouse, in the middle of an argument.

Joseph Morros, a 27-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of shooting a father to death in an Inwood (NYC) warehouse.

Morros allegedly fatally shot Tykeem Berry on Dec. 15 in front of his child, police said. He was arrested on charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Berry was with his 10-year-old daughter when she was shot, New York Police Chief of Detectives James Essig said. NYPD originally said the daughter was 9 years old. Morros was detained without incident in connection with the deadly shooting, Pix11 said.

Father and daughter were at a bodega at 144 Nagle Avenue to buy a sandwich, Essig said. Apparently Morros and Berry did not know each other before the fatal shooting, so the motive for the crime is unclear.

“It sounds like the victim is upset that the perpetrator is looking at him,” Essig said. “Words were exchanged which led to a physical altercation and gunshots caused death.”

Several Arrests of Berry

Berry had several prior arrests, including 10 this year for alleged harassment and assault, police said. He, too, was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon in 2016 and again in 2018. He was also arrested multiple times in 2011.

“My brother was a loving, caring man,” said Berry’s older sister, Karen Mebane. “He had a shady past, but he grew up to be a good man, a good father, and he led a good life.” She left two orphaned children.

All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Crime Scenes

In New York the interior and surroundings of warehouses are frequently crime scenes, both robberies and homicides. As of early July, 195 NYC warehouse robberies had been reported in 2022, according to police.

Earlier that month a Dominican employee was arrested for killing an intruder during a confrontation at a Harlem bodega. Days later, he was exonerated of all charges in the middle of a controversy in which even the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, supported him by saying that he was a worker who had acted in self-defense. The case also served to revive complaints about growing insecurity in New York stores and warehouses.

Then in November a fight inside a warehouse spilled over into the street and ended with a young man shot to death by police in a confusing incident in The Bronx (NYC).
