(Washington Insider Magazine) -Could there be a Gavin Newsom presidential run? Here’s what we know.
With the dust beginning to settle after the 2022 midterm elections last month, the nation has focused on the next US Presidential Election in 2024. Preparations and rumors are underway in the Democratic and Republican parties to decide which of their candidates is best qualified to be the next leader of the free world.
Who is running for president in 2024? Could there be a Gavin Newsom presidential run?
Dozens of potential democratic party nominees, from Vice-President Kamala Harris to Oprah Winfrey to former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, have been conjectured. One of the democratic party’s favorites up for discussion is California Governor Gavin Newsom as a potential presidential nominee. Despite speculations, Governor Newsom has never actually gone on record declaring that he would consider running for such an office in 2024 – but many are hoping to see a Gavin Newsom presidential run.
This lack of affirmation could be due, in part, to the Democratic Party erring on the side of caution. Not willing to make any bold or hasty moves before learning of President Biden’s intentions for 2024, the fractured party has patiently awaited his announcement.
However, one day after the midterm elections, Biden announced his intention to run again in two years – pending his family’s approval over the upcoming holidays.
With this new revelation, Governor Newsom has responded by declaring that he will not consider running against the incumbent president. Instead, Newsom has offered his full support to President Biden in his bid for a second term. This disappointed those hoping for a Gavin Newsom presidential run.
If President Biden changes his intention after the holidays, he will officially decline the second term. The Democratic Party will subsequently begin to seriously vet and consider qualified candidates throwing their hats in the political ring.
At that point, Governor Newsom is highly expected to pursue the democratic nomination, although he has suggested to some that he would not.
Unlike some of the other rumored potential nominees, such as Oprah Winfrey or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Governor Gavin Newsom has been a seasoned, successful, and popular public servant figure for more than a quarter century.
From 1996 to the present day, Newsom has served as San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors, Mayor of San Francisco, Lieutenant Governor of California, and current Governor of California. Should Gavin Newsom decline the 2024 presidential bid, he will almost certainly be a democratic forerunner in 2028.
