(Washington Insider Magazine)-Federal prosecutors have subpoenaed all White House documents from January 6 in an effort to indict former President Donald Trump’s involvement in the attacks against the United States Capital and his effort to overturn the results of the 2020 Presidential election. The document subpoenaed at this time are expected to open the case from different angles, providing insight into the events of the day.
The investigation against former President Donald Trump intensifies after the New York Times reveals a copy of the Grand Jury subpoena. The subpoena was issued to the National Archives and demanded “all materials, in whatever form” to be turned over to a bipartisan House committee.
These requested documents include drafted text messages, phone logs, daily schedules, and records from former President Trump’s top aides.
The Federal prosecutor leading the charge in the investigation, Thomas P. Windom, is currently inquiring about former President Trump’s top aides’ attempt to strategize ways to prolong power after losing the 2020 presidential election.
Mr. Windom is forming his investigation based on a text message recently revealed in the documents subpoenaed.
A reputed text message sent days before the January 6 attack allegedly caused suspicion against President Trump’s election committee. The text message indicated a plan was formed to submit fake slates to Congress using non-state certified election certifications.
Prosecutors believe this was an attempt by former President Donald Trump to overthrow the 2020 presidential election by involving Republican electors to sign false certifications.
Such acts, if proven, would result in a federal crime. However, the fake certificates were not approved by any state legislature, and the direct connection between former president Trump and the attempted election scheme has not been supported by evidence.
Federal prosecutor Mr. Windom hopes that the newly attained confidential evidence will prove his suspicion of Trump’s involvement with funding and planning the election scheme, as well as the January 6th attack on the state capital.
This federal subpoena announcement comes on the heels of a non-related subpoena currently investigating former President Donald Trump’s unauthorized removal of classified documents to Mar-a-Lago, a private Florida beach residence owned by Trump. The Mar-a-Lago subpoena demanded classified documents originally requested by investigators in the Spring of 2022.
