HOPEWELL, Va. (Washington Insider Magazine) – The Federal Bureau of Prisons and U.S. Marshals Service said on Wednesday that all 4 prisoners who escaped from a minimum-security prison remote facility in Virginia during the weekend are now back in custody.
According to ABC NEWS, the prisoners were reported missing from the remote prison of the Federal Correctional Facility Petersburg in Hopewell, Virginia, at roughly 1:45 a.m. on Saturday.
According to Senior Inspector Kevin Connolly of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, Kareem Allen Shaw, Tavaraes Lajuane Graham, Lamonte Rashawn Willis, and Corey Branch escaped the minimal security facility around 10 p.m. on Friday and it took a few hours before their disappearance was noticed.
According to authorities, Graham returned back to the prison and turned himself in early on Sunday, and Shaw and Branch did the same on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Willis turned himself in at the medium security prison in Petersburg, according to officials.
Despite saying on Saturday that an internal probe has been initiated, Bureau authorities concealed any more information concerning the escape. The minimum-security satellite camps run by the agency contain dormitories and either little to no surrounding fence. Both the primary facility and off-site work programmes receive convict labor from them.
According to Connolly, the U.S. Marshals Service and the bureau are still looking into the matter and will report their findings to the Richmond office of the U.S. Attorney.
In the Eastern District of North Carolina, Graham, 44, received a 10-year sentence for carrying a firearm along with the intent to traffic in 500 grams or more of cocaine and 28 grams or more of cocaine base.
For fentanyl possession with the intent to distribute and felon in possession of a firearm, Branch, 41, received a sentence in the Eastern District of Virginia of over 13 years.
For possessing and concealing a stolen firearm as well as having a firearm in his possession as a felon, Willis, 30, received an 18-year term in the Eastern District of Virginia.
For conspiracy to possess heroin in a quantity sufficient for distribution, Shaw, 46, received a sentence of more than 16 years in the Western District of Virginia.
