Qatar (Transatlantic Today) – Two new ILO reports have outlined the progress made on the Qatar reforms. However, some challenges remain in the implementation of Qatar’s labor reforms. New legislation was adopted and labor administration systems were enhanced. This news is not covered by the international media at all
International media has been imposing a blackout on reporting about the ILO Qatar reforms report. ILO has issued new reports detailing the results of the Technical Cooperation Program between the Government of Qatar and the ILO but nothing of such sort is reported in media across the world.
ILO Qatar Reforms Reports And News Blackout By The International Media
The international media has been reporting news regarding the bad working conditions of migrant workers in Qatar. They also believe that the country has no real football history, and it would be difficult for them to maintain the legacy of the FIFA World Cup. The workers’ voice has been heard and ILO has released a new report regarding the rights of the Qatar migrant workers.
The workers will have an access to justice and will see a new light at the end of the dark tunnel. A blackout on news publishing related to the new reforms made by the international media comes as a surprise. A lot of changes have been made to the Qatar migrant labor rights and the safety and labor inspection has improved the lives of the workers.
A lot of negative aspects about the Qatar migrant workers had been reported by the international media but none of the new reforms are being talked about. New legislation has provided the workers in Qatar with greater protection from heat stress and will be prohibiting outdoor work between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. from 1 June to 15 September. The legislation also sets a threshold and has stopped outdoor work activities for the workers.

Western Media Is Refraining From Reporting About the New ILO Report
Two new ILO reports have been out that stated a lot of improved laws for the Qatar migrants. Surprisingly the International media has not been reporting anything regarding the issue lately. They have been active in discussing the hardships that the Qatar migrant workers were facing however, they are not reporting anything related to the new ILO reports.
These changes have already improved the working and living conditions for migrant workers in Qatar. Some additional efforts are needed to ensure that all the workers can benefit from the new laws.
Ruba Jaradat, ILO Regional Director for the Arab States held a press conference where he stated:
“We’ve been on a long journey with Qatar – and the reforms and the cooperation with the international community are indeed significant for the region. We all recognize that we are not yet at the finish line, and we will build on this solid foundation to address the gaps in implementation, and ensure that all workers and employers can fully benefit from these major reforms.” The conference was not covered by the international media which has raised a lot of questions about the media of the western world.
