Ukraine Russia War: What Weapons US Supplied to Kyiv Till Now?, Transatlantic Today

Washington DC (Washington Insider Magazine) –  The US has been helping Ukraine big time to fight their common enemy Russia. On the other side, Russia is getting closer each day to having control of the entire Ukraine and has already seized some of the coastal ports which have strategic importance.

From Heavy artillery to Tactical drones to armoured vehicles, the US has provided $3.4 billion in weapons to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion two months ago. Recently, US announced to deliver Longer-Range Rocket Systems From Biden Administration

The US has recently provided an Aid Package worth $800 million, which is the eighth instalment of the total aid.

Now let’s take a look at the weapons that the US has supplied to Ukraine in a fight against Russian forces.

Drones

The latest security package that the Ukraine army has received includes 121 tactical unmanned aerial systems dubbed “Phoenix Ghost” drones.

John Kirby, Pentagon spokesman, said that the drones were rapidly developed by the Air force after inspecting that Ukraine needed them badly in their war against Russia.

Kirby said, “It provides similar capabilities to the Switchblade series of unmanned systems, similar capabilities but not exact. There are other differences in the scope of capability for the Phoenix Ghosts, but I’m just not going to be able to get into more detail about those capabilities right now”.

Avex Aerospace is producing drones from Solana Beach, California, and is currently part of the US Air force Arsenal. Kirby also added that once the drones are in the region, The US army will have to teach Ukrainian troops how to operate them.

The US has also supplied at least 300 switchable drones manufactured by US-based firm AeroVironment. These drones come in two variants named the Switchable 300 and 600. It is yet to be known which one will be deployed In Ukraine.

The 300 version is designed to take down the small targets. It weighs around 5 pounds and has a range of 10 miles.

 While on the other hand, the 600 version can easily take down tanks and other armoured vehicles. It weighs slightly more than 120 pounds and has a range of more than 40 miles.

Armored and Tactical Vehicles

The US has supplied hundreds of armored vehicles to Ukraine forces which include 200 M113 armored vehicles and 100 high armored mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles.

Moreover, the US military has provided at least 72 tactical vehicles. Tactical vehicles can be used to tow the US army and US marine corps 155 mm howitzers around the battlefield.

Heavy Artillery

The Last two US weapon Packages for Ukraine have included 90 howitzer artillery systems. These are the first heavy artillery platforms to be transferred from the US Army and US Marine Corps stockpiles to Ukrainian forces.

The Pentagon confirmed that Ukraine forces would have to train alongside US troops before operating the howitzers. The PentagonPentagon claimed that the training had begun outside Ukrainian territory.

Along with the howitzers, the US has sent approximately 184,000 artillery rounds.

Missiles and Other Anti-Armor Systems

When the US Announced a weapon package for Ukraine, the Ukrainian army was desperately waiting to get their hands on the javelin portable anti-armor weapons.

So, the US has supplied nearly 6,000 javelins, which are co-produced by defense giants Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, to the Ukrainian Government.

Moreover, the US has supplied nearly 2000 stinger anti-craft missile systems to Ukraine.

Aircraft and Radars

The US had sent at least 11 Mi-17 Russian military helicopters that were once going to be part of Afghanistan’s military fleet before the stunning Taliban took over the country.

The Mi-17s are personnel transport helicopters that can be armed with cannons and rockets to perform an attack or close air support roles.

Along with Mi-17s, the US military has supplied 10 highly mobile AN/TPQ-36 counter artillery radars. This radar system can locate mortars, artillery, and rockets within short range.

Guns and Ammunition

The PentagonPentagon has sent nearly 40 million rounds of small ammunition and more than 5,000 rifles, 1,000 pistols, 400 machine guns, and 400 shots to Ukraine.

This does not end here; the US also sent more than 1 million grenades, mortars and artillery rounds, mortars and artillery rounds.

Protective Equipment

As per the PentagonPentagon, the US has sent more than 30,000 sets of body armor and helmets to Ukrainian forces. They also sent night vision devices along with thermal imagery systems and other forms of militarized optics.

The US also provided the medical supplies as well as equipment used to aid in combat evacuations.

Conclusion

The US has almost provided Ukraine with everything they need to defend itself. This US move could also escalate the issue and end in WW3. The US sent advanced weapons to Ukraine, creating chaos in Russia. Russia is in rage against the US for helping Ukraine so highly.
