US (Washington Insider Magazine)— A recent NBC News poll reveals a sharp divide in voter preferences based on how Americans consume news—or avoid it altogether. While President Joe Biden garners strong support from traditional news consumers, former President Donald Trump and independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. find favor among those disengaged from political news.
Among registered voters, 54% primarily consume traditional media like newspapers and network news, with Biden leading this group by 11 points (52% to Trump’s 41%). Conversely, Trump narrowly leads Biden (47% to 44%) among digital media consumers, including those who rely on social media and online platforms for news.
The most striking statistic: voters who avoid political news entirely back Trump by a commanding 53% to 27% margin over Biden. This group also holds more favorable views of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
“Those who read newspapers overwhelmingly support Biden, but Trump thrives where political disengagement exists,” said Republican pollster Bill McInturff.
The poll underscores the candidates’ differing strategies for the 2024 election. Biden leans on traditional media, while Trump’s appeal resonates with nontraditional and non-news-following audiences, emphasizing the influence of media consumption in shaping voter perceptions.
