New York (Washington Insider Magazine) – A lot of companies in the USA implement a 4 day work week to achieve desired goals and provide their employees with relaxation to perform better. Hundreds of thousands of employees are starting off the 4 day work week from this week.

Smaller companies experimenting with the four-day week have found performance has been better in the first few weeks as excitement about the project took hold, before falling slightly.

It is more of a win-win situation for both the companies and their employees. There are various reasons that make a 4 day work week more productive than an outdated 5 day work week.

Is a 4 day/week more productive?

Reduce overhead and other costs

From a financial point of view, research indicates that moving to a 4 day work week can cut numerous overhead and other costs. Businesses can immediately reduce their overhead cost of electricity and energy consumption.

During the 4 day work week trial at Microsoft Japan, the authorities found out that their electricity cost fell by 23%. This indicates how shifting to a 4 day work week can save a lot of money for your business and helps you with your budget.

Help to attract and retain talent

This proposed new way of working can help deal with one of the major problems employers face employee turnover. According to a different survey conducted and found out that 3 out of 4 respondents stated that they would quit their current job if offered a position to work a four day work week.

According to several types of research and surveys, it was also found that Millennials tend to care more about their mental health over money and they are always ready to give up their job for a better prospect where they have good chances of shielding their mental health.

Increase employee productivity and well being

In 2019, Microsoft Japan tested reducing the workweek by one day, which led to a 40% boost in productivity. This way the employee is focused to work smarter than harder and they get enough time to refresh and start rather than grinding each day.

When employees have to work four days a week, they are better able to balance their work and life and that gives them an edge to look after themselves and maintain a healthy lifestyle. This also affects the way they go about their job.

Does a 4 day work week reduce stress?

Four day work week is extremely helpful in lowering the stress level as it gives employees one extra day to refresh themselves and look after their well being.

For four years, researchers tracked 2,500 employees who reduced their workweek to 35, 36 hours.

They discovered their well being dramatically increased across a range of Indicators, from perceived stress and burnout to health and work-life balance.

While five day, 40-hour workweek is a nearly century-old tradition, the model is certainly outdated. Employees today should be measured by output, not hours.
