BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas (Washington Insider Magazine) – During a teen’s birthday celebration at a leased Airbnb property in a Houston suburban area, a 23-second gun fight in which 30 to 50 rounds were fired left one individual injured and police looking for perpetrators, authorities said.
ABC station KTRK in Houston received Ring doorbell camera footage from a property near the party home, which showed the chaotic scenario of many individuals rushing down a residential street and scrambling behind parked vehicles for shelter as the gun mayhem occurred.
“You know, it could have been so much worse,” said a woman who lives nearby the Airbnb property and saw the event after returning home with her kid, according to KTRK.
The incident occurred Saturday night near Manville, roughly 24 miles south of Houston, according to detective Robert Gonzales of the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office. According to him, one of the teens was hit in the foot.
According to Gonzales, the shooting began after a fight broke out during a 16th birthday celebration hosted at the leased Airbnb residence.
As of Tuesday morning, no arrests had been made.
Authorities say at least 3 firearms were used in the incident, which left multiple bullet holes in the area and smashed at least one adjoining home’s window.
Airbnb noted in a release that the residence has been removed off its marketplace and that the user who leased it has been suspended pending an investigation.
“Airbnb bans parties, and we condemn this senseless gun violence,” the company stated in a statement.
The Texas incident occurred on the same day that an 18-year-old male was killed in a shooting at an Airbnb rental property in the Sacramento suburb of Elk Grove, according to the Elk Grove Police Department. There have been no arrests.
According to authorities, the Airbnb apartment was being leased for a celebration at the time of the deadly shooting in Elk Grove, according to a preliminary report. According to the report, authorities believe there were 10 to 15 individuals at the private party, but most had left by the time police arrived and discovered the victim inside.
