WASHINGTON (Washington Insider Magazine) – President Joe Biden stated Thursday that Americans should not “grow numb” to the tragedy of the coronavirus epidemic, as he marked one million Covid-19 deaths in the US.
As he proceeded to sign a decree directing flags to be flown at half-staff in remembrance of those who died as a result of Covid — and as he planned to co-host a worldwide summit mapping the next measures in combating the pandemic — Biden encouraged the nation to be cautious.
“One million empty chairs around the dinner table. Each an irreplaceable loss. Each leaving behind a family, a community, and a nation forever changed because of this pandemic,” In a statement released by the White House early Thursday, Biden stated.
The president stated that Congress must continue to provide resources to battle the spreading of Covid-19 in the months ahead.
Biden made his remarks before a worldwide conference on Thursday aimed at ending the Covid-19 problem and preparing for future disasters.
The United States will co-host the virtual summit alongside Germany, which currently occupies the G7 presidency, and Indonesia, the G20 president, as well as African Union chair Senegal and CARICOM chair Belize, according to a statement released by the White House early this week.
According to NBC News, the United States surpassed the one million threshold earlier in the month, surpassing the population of San Jose, California, the country’s tenth largest city. According to the data, the number of Covid-19 fatalities in the Country had reached 1,002,848, as of Wednesday.
Covid-related deaths have reduced in recent days, but according to NBC News, an average of 481 individuals died every day as of Wednesday, indicating a 41 % spike in only 2 weeks.
Dr. Christopher Murray, the director of the University of Washington School of Medicine’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, told NBC News earlier in the month that the fact that so many people have died is still shocking.
And, he added, the death toll would only rise in the coming days.
