Syria (Washington Insider Magazine) – Syria’s military has launched a fierce counteroffensive following a surprise attack by rebel forces that took control of Aleppo, one of the country’s largest cities. The Syrian government quickly deployed reinforcements and conducted airstrikes aimed at retaking the city, which had been under regime control for years.
In response, Iran has pledged to assist Syria, reinforcing the Assad regime’s position by sending military advisors and support. This development marks a significant escalation in the conflict, with the death toll rising steadily. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 514 people, including civilians and military personnel, have died in the ongoing violence.
The U.S. government has condemned the Syrian regime, labeling President Bashar al-Assad as a brutal dictator responsible for the deaths of his people. However, the U.S. remains opposed to the militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, which is also involved in the fighting.
The situation in Syria has further complicated the regional conflict, with concerns about its broader implications for peace and security in the Middle East. The United Nations has called for all parties to resume political negotiations to avoid more bloodshed and destruction in a war that has already lasted for over a decade.
