(Washington Insider Magazine)-Former Republican Vice President Mike Pence subtly hinted at the idea of testifying before the January 6 House Committee concerning the events that led to the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Jan 6th.
However, he has made it irrefutably clear that if he were to receive an invitation to appear to discuss the events of Jan 6th, he would want to evaluate any thorny constitutional questions before dedicating his time.
Pence carefully indicated to a conservative audience in New Hampshire that if he were to accept a formal invitation to testify against the precedent President Donald J. Trump, he would need to reflect on what all this means as a former Vice President openly testifying on Capitol Hill about his former boss.
Yet, the Former Vice President would not be the first VP in U.S. history to testify to Congress. Among the list of former presidents and Vice Presidents known for their testimony in the presence of a congressional committee is the late President Gerald Ford when he publicly shared his decision to pardon President Nixon amidst the Watergate scandal.
There have not been any recent developments surrounding talks about a possible court appearance. Still, it has been mentioned that angered committee members are closely working together to connect with his attorneys.
After delivering his speech in New Hampshire on Wednesday, he opened the floor for questions where many inquired about his upcoming plans for a viable presidential campaign in 2024. While he declined to answer yes or no to the posed question, he did mention his plans to frequent New Hampshire shortly.
Pence has been seen paying many visits to states well known for kicking off presidential campaigns in the past. In efforts to separate his politics from Trump’s, he has steered away from overtly criticizing the former president and clings hard to the values and politics of the late Republican President Ronald Reagan.
While it remains unclear whether or not Pence stands a fighting chance in the upcoming 2024 presidential election, he is certainly avoiding the loaded question: Where was he on January 6th?
