Washington, D.C (Washington Insider Magazine)—The Office of Tourism and Cultural Exchange (OFIT) enables more than two thousand students to travel to the United States this summer as part of its Work and Travel program. This initiative, now in its twenty-first year, is created to offer young people the opportunity for cultural exchange and employment abroad.
Pre-Departure Orientation
According to Robertocavada, OFIT organized its traditional “Pre-Departure Orientation” meeting in perpetration for their journey . At this event, Modesto aReyes Fuerte, president of OFIT, addressed the participants, offering them essential tools, recommendations, and motivation for their upcoming experience. Reyes Fuerte emphasized the program’s track record, noting that over the past 20 years, OFIT has facilitated the participation of more than 40 thousand young individuals in the Work and Travel program.
Beneficial Experiences Await
During the program, participants will spend four months in the United States working in various industries, including hotels, restaurants, department stores, and amusement parks. This opportunity allows individuals to enhance their English skills while engaging in diverse cultures.

Reyes Fuerte applauded the young Dominicans who participated in the program, emphasizing their perseverance, commitment, and good attitude. He stressed the value of the event, which he believes will have a long-term impact on their lives.
Value-added Training
To further enrich the students’ experience, the orientation event included lectures on leadership, business, personal development, and personal finance. Entertainment was also provided, with various activities and prizes offered to the attendees.
Regulated Program
Work and Travel is a program regulated by the United States Department of State. OFIT collaborates with North American companies as sponsors, enabling Dominican students to obtain formal work permits and access multiple employment opportunities.
OFIT’s Commitment to Cultural Exchange
OFIT has been at the forefront of cultural exchange programs in the Dominican Republic for two decades. Through initiatives like Work and Travel, Internship in Hospitality and Tourism, Trainee, TeachUSA Program, and Summer Camp Program, OFIT has provided tens of thousands of young students with the chance to explore other countries, interact with different cultures, and learn new languages.
