Monkeypox Vaccine Update: Get Yours in 2022

Monkeypox Vaccine Update: Get Yours in 2022, Transatlantic Today

(Washington Insider Magazine)-The Center for Disease Control announced this week that the preferred Jynneos Monkeypox vaccine is showing positive results for individuals exposed to the virus. Current statistics show the vaccine and changes in behavior are making a huge dent in the spread. However, those who did not get vaccinated are 14 times more likely to become infected.

The Biden Administration received credible data from those who have received the Jynneos vaccine for Monkeypox. It is being proven that Jynneos has increased optimism for its effectiveness against the virus.  It is proposed that the vaccine’s success may possibly put a halt to the current outbreak in America.

Over 25,000 Americans have contracted the monkeypox virus.  Despite the drop in new diagnoses recently, secondary infections are increasing among those who have been infected. According to the Centers for Disease Control, mostly Black and Latino men currently with HIV are among those the most affected by the virus.

The Monkeypox virus has been mainly reported among the practices of gay and bisexual men. However, it has been documented that several cases have been reported outside of the LGBTQ community. Therefore, the CDC urges communities to spread information on prevention and treatment, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual preference, social standing, or geographical background.  Community engagement is being encouraged to educate and change the behavior that is said to cause the spread of the virus.

The risk of children contracting the Monkeypox virus is low and rare, but it has happened. Although children and adolescents are not eligible for the vaccine at this time, taking precautions if someone is infected is shown to reduce the risk of spread.  Suggestions to avoid skin-to-skin contact and not share common items such as clothes, towels, or beds are safety measures the CDC is recommending.

The Monkeypox vaccine is still in limited supply but is readily available to those who are considered high risk or have been recently exposed to the virus. The Centers for Disease Control suggests it is best to receive the vaccine prior to or within the first few days of exposure.
