US(Washington Insider Magazine) -Gerardo González Valencia, alias “El Lalo”, was in charge of managing the money laundering networks of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel.
The power that some drug traffickers display when they are at the top of their criminal career ends when they are caught, and some even cooperate with authorities to reduce their sentences.
This recently happened with Gerardo González Valencia, alias “El Lalo”, identified as the brother-in-law of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho”, and who pleaded guilty to the crimes charged against him by the United States authorities.
Background of González Valencia
González Valencia was the leader of the Los Cuinis criminal group, a group made up of brothers who were dedicated to managing the money laundering networks of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), but who were heavily involved in the world of drug trafficking, since his father , Armando Valencia Cornelio, alias “El Maradona”, founded the Milenio Cartel, a group in which “El Mencho” was formed.
Thus, with those bases in the criminal world, it was easy for him to manage the part of the cartel of the four letters, in addition to also doing the same, for this reason, since 2011 he moved to Uruguay, where he continued with the money laundering administration, but also, according to the United States government, he conspired with others to traffic drugs from the south to the north of America.
“El Lalo” was arrested in 2016 in Uruguay, it is believed that that day he was going to pick up his children from school to flee the country, but his plans were frustrated. He spent four years in a Uruguayan prison and in 2020 he was extradited to the United States.
Although he tried to avoid his trial on several occasions, the authorities reviewed his case and found no elements to authorize his request, so he chose to plead guilty to trafficking cocaine to the United States, at least between 2003 and 2016.
The Justice Department said in a statement that the defendant pleaded guilty to “one count of conspiracy to knowingly and with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine into the United States.”
The sentence is expected to be read on April 6, 2023, which could be for a minimum of 10 years or even for life.
According to the newspaper Milenio, one of the events attributed to Gerardo and Abigael -brother of “El Lalo”- through a witness who cooperates with the authorities, was the coordination between the two to send a shipment of cocaine by submarine. from an unknown place to Mexico, and that later an attempt was made to send it by the same means to the United States. Finally, the Coast Guard managed to secure the shipment and use it as evidence to try him.
