(Washington Insider Magazine) —Today, I’d like you to stop, take a look around, and listen. At first, you might hear the outer influences. The news, the people in your life that show up, or maybe the internet and all social media’s influence. What are these things doing to you? Are they working for you? Are they helping you become better?
Next, take a look around and listen again. This time, hear your own words and thoughts. What are you telling yourself? Are these things working for or against you? Are they helping you meet your life’s goals?
Now, take a look at your associates, friends and loved ones. How are these people coming into your life? Being close to others help build your connections and as such help you feel both connected and supported. Be mindful of the input they provide and ask if those social connections are healthy.
If you have a child, imagine how much more difficult it is for them with all the messages they are receiving. Their brains are not equipped to process things like adults do.
If it is a spouse, sibling, relative, or friend, imagine how difficult it is for them with layers of expectations coming in affecting their life.
Ways to recognize the quality of your relationship: Pay attention to the listening skills between you both. Do you both use uninterrupted listening? Do you both naturally exchange compliments? These are 2 things that can help you start to see if the relationship is on stable ground for a healthy status.
