USA (Washington Insider Magazine) – Harris, who had previously urged fracking ban, plans to highlight climate contrast between Democrats and Trump, campaign officials have confirmed. Instead, Harris, the Democratic nominee, will stress the sharp contrast between the climate policies of Joe Biden’s administration and those of Donald Trump.

During her 2020 presidential campaign, Harris promised to stop fracking and support the Green New Deal, which will transition the United States to 100% renewable energy. She also called for new dietary standards to minimize meat consumption. She pledged at the time to end fracking and promote clean jobs.

Since assuming the role of Vice President in 2021, Harris has aligned with the Biden administration’s approach, which permits fracking but includes regulations to limit methane emissions, a significant greenhouse gas. However, former President Trump has accused Harris of wanting to eliminate fracking, particularly targeting key states like Pennsylvania.

Trump’s Claims Disputed

The Harris campaign has dismissed Trump’s assertions as false, accusing him of attempting to distract from his policies that favor oil and gas executives over the middle class. Campaign spokespeople confirmed Harris does not support a fracking ban.

Fracking remains controversial due to environmental concerns, particularly the potential pollution of local water supplies. Several environmental groups have called upon a national ban, and California is close to implementing a ban on new fracking operations, citing the need for a healthier future.

According to Thegurdian, Some environmental advocates, such as Mitch Jones of Food & Water Action, have expressed disappointment over Harris’s shift from supporting a fracking ban. However, Jones acknowledged the significant differences between Harris’s and Trump’s climate policies.

Focus on Climate Policy and Campaign Strategy

Harris’s campaign will highlight climate policy contrasts with Trump, focusing on achievements like the Inflation Reduction Act. Democratic strategist Paul Bledsoe expects Harris to continue supporting Biden’s climate policies, potentially with a stronger emphasis on reducing pollutants like methane.

Environmental groups have endorsed Harris, urging her to adopt more ambitious policies. The Sunrise Movement recently organized a rally to advocate for a comprehensive climate and economic plan. Former Vice President Al Gore has endorsed Harris, praising her as a necessary climate champion in the White House. Gore emphasized the high stakes of the upcoming election, including climate action and the strengthening of democracy.
