Kabul’s Interior Ministry mosque blast claims 4 lives

Kabul’s Interior Ministry mosque blast claims 4 lives, Transatlantic Today

KABUL, Afghanistan (Washington Insider Magazine)– At least 4 people were killed in an explosion at a government ministry in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, on Wednesday as a result of a suicide bomber’s attack on a Taliban stronghold.

The Interior Ministry of Afghanistan, which is in charge of safety and law enforcement in the nation, runs a mosque where employees and attendees were praying when the explosion occurred in the afternoon. A Taliban spokesperson reported that there were at least 25 worshipers injured.

According to ABC NEWS, the Taliban suffered a significant setback as a result of the attack within a well-secured stronghold. Since assuming power in August 2021, the Taliban have been attempting to display strength and authority.

Although the major Taliban adversary, the extremist organization Islamic State, has carried out a number of attacks, including ones in mosques, as part of a protracted conflict, there was no quick claim of responsibility. Taliban patrols and Shiite Afghans have both been targeted in the past.

The incident on Wednesday happened at the Interior Ministry complex near the city’s major thoroughfare and the international airport at approximately 1:30 p.m.

According to ministry spokesperson Abdul Nafi Takor, the explosion occurred during prayers. Four worshipers were reported dead and 25 injured, he claimed.

According to the Kabul Emergency Hospital, individuals with burns and injuries started arriving there at 2:00 p.m. a few of the injured “Dejan Panic, the hospital’s acting country director, claimed that many people “reported seeing a man detonate a device. “It was a suicide attack.”

The suicide attack at an education facility in Kabul last week that left up to 52 people dead was followed by the mosque explosion. This is more than double the number of fatalities reported by Taliban officials.

UN analysts claimed earlier this year that IS and guerrilla strikes by former Afghan government security officers were the Taliban’s greatest military threat.

According to their analysis, neighboring nations and the larger international community were becoming concerned about the existence of IS, the al-Qaida network, and “many other terrorist groups and fighters on Afghan soil.”

A Kabul maternity facility was attacked by an IS affiliate in 2020, which resulted in the deaths of 24 individuals, including mothers and newborn babies. Before the Taliban took control in 2021, the organization attacked a school, killing around 90 people, most of them schoolgirls.
