Biography 

Ossoff was born on February 16, 1987, in Atlanta, Georgia. He is 35 years old. Jon was raised in Northlake, an unincorporated community. His mother Heather Fenton is an Australian immigrant who belongs to Sydney. She immigrated to the United States when she was 23 years old. His mother is the co-founding member of the NewPower PAC, which is an organization working to elect women to local office across Georgia. His father Richard Ossoff is of Russian Jewish and Lithuanian Jewish descent and owns Strafford Publications, which is a publishing company.

 Ossoff was raised Jewish. He grew up among Holocaust survivor relatives and this greatly influenced him and his views on the world. He attended The Paideia School, which was an independent school in Atlanta. In high school, he did an internship for the civil rights leader and U.S. Representative John Lewis. In 2009 Ossoff earned his graduation degree from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service. He also has a Master of Science degree in international political economy from the London School of Economics.

Political Career

In 2020, Ossoff managed to win the Democratic nomination for the 2020 U.S. Senate election in Georgia. He ran against the then-incumbent Republican senator David Perdue. Neither of the candidates reached 50 percent and on November 3 general elections were held again. During the election on January 5, 2021, Ossoff won the seat that he ran for.

Ossoff is serving alongside his fellow Democrat Raphael Warnock. Both of them have been attracting significant national attention because they decided which party would control the Senate in the 117th Congress. Warnock and Ossoff have seen various victories and this has helped the Democrats attain a 50–50 split in the Senate. This makes it an effective majority because of the tie-breaking vote of the Vice President. Ossoff took his seat officially on January 20, 2021, and became the senior senator from Georgia.

After he received a recommendation from John Lewis, Ossoff worked as a national security staffer for U.S. representative Hank Johnson. Between 2013 to 2021, Ossoff served as the managing director and chief executive officer of Insight TWI.

Ossoff spent many years serving as a Congressional staffer for Hank Johnson. In 2017, after Georgia representative Tom Price got appointed as the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Jon shared revealed his candidacy and attention to fill this seat. He managed to win the regular runoff election and was much more prominent than Raphael Warnock’s win in the special runoff election. As a result, the Democrats won control of the U.S. Senate. Republicans secured 50 seats, and Democrats secured 48 seats.

Ossoff is the youngest member of the Senate and has been elected since Don Nickles in 1980. He is also the first Jewish member of the Senate from Georgia. Ossoff also became the first Jewish senator from the Deep South. Before him, Benjamin F. Jonas of Louisiana was elected in 1878. Warnock and Ossoff are the first two Democrats who are representing Georgia in the United States Senate. The last politician who served and won this seat was Zell Miller in 2005.

Personal life

Ossoff is married to Alisha Kramer, who is an obstetrics and gynecology resident at Emory University. She is also a graduate of Georgetown University and Emory University School of Medicine. Ossoff got married to Kramer in 2017. 

The couple dated for 12 years before getting married in a private ceremony. On the night of Ossoff’s election to the United States Senate in January 2021, Kramer worked an overnight shift at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. This shows how the couple is focused on their respective careers. They have one daughter who was born in December 2021
