(Washington Insider Magazine) -All around the world, and especially within the United States, there are a significant number of people quitting their jobs. In July alone, 4 million people quit their jobs. This seemed to be the pattern throughout August and even September.
So even though there are more than 10 million jobs open now, many people are not willing to take them. So the big question is, is the Great Resignation going to be a sign of the times, or is this going to be an era of change that will eventually lead to more people taking jobs after the pandemic is over?
What Made People Decide to Quit
Many people are wondering exactly what made people quit their jobs. With job stability being an essential factor in the pandemic, why would so many people want to stop when they need the money? One of the main reasons is that these young individuals, between 30 and 45 years old, generally commit more turnover rates than most. Additionally, there are also some significant problems regarding the requirements now for jobs. Some people who have quit their jobs do not want to abide by the vaccine mandate and find another position that best suits their needs.
Where Have All the Workers Gone?
Surprisingly, the Great Resignation led to more people opening up their businesses and starting to work independently or even working from home. The work-from-home movement is becoming a significant part of motivating individuals to take these decisions to heart. Those who quit their jobs see the potential work from home as an opportunity to spend more time with their family, help their kids, and have greater control over their lives. These workers are not leaving for unemployment payments, but they’re leaving to find other options that best suit their lives.
How Can Companies Cope?
Perhaps the Great Resignation is also a sign that individuals need to consider what their workers need. Companies for many years have been driving the corporate lifestyle home, forcing people to work long hours, say goodbye to their children, and abide by specific rules and spend long hours away from what they want to do.
Instead, companies need to consider how workers will be most comfortable, accommodate them as best they can, and begin to strengthen their workforce. If they don’t, the Great Resignation is simply going to lead to more companies being without assistance, and with many of them being in healthcare and tech, the industry could not lose these vital workers.
