US (Washington Insider Magazine) – With the 2024 election just days away, a new NPR/PBS News/Marist poll reveals that voters are split on whether Vice President Kamala Harris will fulfill the promises she’s made throughout her campaign. While Harris maintains a narrow lead over former President Donald Trump, the poll shows that 49% of respondents believe her promises are politically motivated, while the other 49% think she genuinely intends to carry them out.

Despite this, Harris continues to gain strong support from white, college-educated voters, black voters, and Latinos. However, she is struggling to appeal to younger voters, who traditionally lean Democratic, as her support with this group is notably lower compared to previous elections.

Voters were also closely divided on who would best handle the economy, with 50% favoring Trump and 49% supporting Harris. Nevertheless, Harris has a slight advantage in the overall race, leading Trump by 51% to 47% among likely voters, although the lead remains within the margin of error.

One challenge for Harris is her failure to fully establish herself as a candidate of change, with 50% of voters attributing that label to Trump, compared to 48% for Harris. This sentiment is largely reflected in the gender divide, with a majority of women believing Harris’ proposals are genuine, while more men view them as political tactics.

Trump, on the other hand, enjoys a higher level of confidence from voters regarding his follow-through, with 55% of respondents saying they believe he will implement his policies.

As early voting numbers show Harris with a strong lead, especially among women, Black voters, and Latinos, the final stretch of campaigning will be crucial for both candidates as they vie for key demographic support in the tightest race in years. Voters, especially those in battleground states, will likely decide the outcome in what is expected to be one of the most contentious and closely watched elections in U.S. history.
