(Washington Insider Magazine) – The Biden Administration received the first group of immigrants under the new ‘parole’ plan, a temporary protection; there are hundreds of people who are already authorized to travel to the United States.
A group of at least 10 immigrants was the first to receive temporary protection under ‘parole’ with the program recently approved by the Government of President Joe Biden.
Migrants From Cuba
At the same time, more than 600 immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela were approved to travel to the United States and receive immigration protection.
This program only benefits immigrants from those countries, but it has conditions, since it is not permanent protection, in addition to trying to cross the border without the corresponding indications, the person will be deported and without the right to further help.
“If an application for parole is denied or the person is detained illegally crossing the border into the US, these people will be returned to their country of origin and will not be able to apply for this process,” said the Customs and Border Protection office ( CBP).
A little over a week after the program started, it has produced the first results, going from 7,000 daily meetings to 4,000 in a week, indicates a CBS News report.
Immigrants must meet several requirements, such as presenting proof of a sponsor in the United States who will receive them, in addition to passing security exams.
The Biden Administration seeks to protect up to 30,000 people per month of the aforementioned nationalities, but the benefit does not grant the right of asylum, in addition to expanding the actions of the Biden Administration under Title 42, accuse civil organizations.
CBS News also notes that the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office has received thousands of applications from potential sponsors.
The program allows immigrants to obtain a “parole” or conditional release, in addition to Employment Authorization, but they do not have immigration status and the protection is for two years.
This type of protection was initiated for refugees from Afghanistan and later for Ukrainians, after the invasion of Russia.
The Biden Administration said that it could extend this plan to a third stage, amid criticism from civil organizations.
“We took our first step in October; we took our second step in January, there’s no reason to believe there won’t be a third step at some point. We are open to that,” said Jake Sullivan, National Security Adviser.
