(Washington Insider Magazine) – On January 5th, nearly 300 migrants were removed from a Florida National Park that had been long closed amid a surge of incoming immigrants. The Florida migrant update and the current crisis is hitting a fever pitch as Governor DeSantis works to address the ongoing security risk, and the border debate continues.
Migrants and international boats continue to dot the country’s waters as thousands flock in search of a better life or to build their legacies in the United States. President Biden has not issued a formal stance on border security as 2023 began, leaving many wondering if there will ever be an end in sight.
Florida Migrant Update: Life On Land
As boats pulled ashore, local authorities worked feverishly to close down the National park in an effort to curb potential risks to the public and rehome the migrants that were currently gathered there.
This was designated as a mandatory step to take as an additional 600 or so migrants were spotted out on sea, presumably fleeing from Cuba in the middle of their current economic and political crises.
The local police forces have voiced concern that the latest Florida migrant update could bring about a true state or national emergency, as the area is completely overwhelmed with the sheer count of the masses.
Florida Migrant Update: Impacts
Officials from Monroe County police have been quoted indicating that their normal operations have been completely diverted in an attempt to address the migrant crisis and the subsequent service calls. There has been no progress made on any rulings within the state or federal court system to manage the outbreak, putting residents at risk.
Officials also commented on the amount of resources that it takes to keep the influx of migrants fed, safe and housed, which the county may not be able to sustain for much longer. Another comment was made, stating that cracks are beginning to show in the state’s operational management system for these events due to a lack of a plan at the federal level.
The Florida Keys continues to receive more floods of immigrants, even at the time of this publication. We will continue to update with any new Florida migrant updates that occur.
