DHS bulletin warns trucker protest could disrupt Super Bowl

DHS bulletin warns trucker protest could disrupt Super Bowl, Transatlantic Today

LOS ANGELES (Washington Insider Magazine) – The Department of Homeland Security is advising law enforcement agencies all around the country that a convoy of trucks opposing Covid-19 vaccine regulations, similar to recent demonstrations in Ottawa, Canada, will soon begin in the United States, potentially disrupting Sunday’s Super Bowl and other events.

According to a DHS warning sent to state and local officials on Tuesday and obtained by CNN, the agency has received information of truck drivers threatening to block roadways in major US cities in protest of, among some other things, vaccination regulations for truck drivers.

Yahoo News was the first to report on the DHS alert.

In a statement to CNN, a DHS official said the department is monitoring rumors of a possible convoy that is intending to travel to numerous U.S. cities. We have not received any specific threats of violence in connection with this convoy in the United States, and we are working very closely with our local, state and federal partners to analyze the threat situation and keep our citizens safe.

Early last week, police started noticing calls on a number of internet forums for the activities in Ottawa to be expanded into the United States, according to a federal law enforcement official. Law police and security officers protecting the Super Bowl in Inglewood, California, are ready for any potential disruptions, according to the official.

Canadian truckers have been opposing a new law that demands them to be completely vaccinated against Covid-19 or risk a 2-week quarantine in their homes after crossing the US-Canadian border for over two weeks. Others have united to protest lockdowns, gathering restrictions, mask mandates and other Covid-19 prevention measures around the country.

Tensions sparked by protests have reached a boiling point, with traffic at key US transportation hubs coming to a halt and a court temporarily banning protestors from blowing horns in the nation’s capital.

DHS said it has been working for more than a year to boost security measures surrounding the Super Bowl and has assigned more than 500 people to the task. According to the agency, it collaborated with federal, state, and local partners to improve the security around the US Capitol.

On March 1, President Joe Biden will make the annual State of the Union speech to Congress.
