Denmark (Washington Insider Magazine) – Denmark has officially ceased recognizing extended Afghan national passports as of September 18, 2024. This decision means that Afghan nationals residing in Denmark who hold an extended passport must now obtain a new national passport by contacting Afghan authorities. For those with a Danish residence permit based on asylum, the Danish Immigration Service has confirmed that they are eligible to apply for a convention or alien’s passport.
However, Afghan nationals holding residence permits for reasons other than asylum must provide proof that they are unable to obtain a national passport in order to qualify for an alien’s passport. Additionally, Denmark has stated that the requirement to travel back to Afghanistan to obtain a new passport will not be considered a valid reason for issuing an alien’s passport. This policy change aligns with Denmark’s stricter immigration regulations and may significantly impact Afghan residents who rely on extended passports for legal identification and travel.
