US (Washington Insider Magazine) —The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) will be partially closed for repairs throughout this weekend, from 2 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. of Monday.
Detours will be posted on side streets as ramps close. The city’s Department of Transportation (DOT) will work on repairs that will reinforce steel bars and replace concrete near Clark Street and Grace Court.
Downtown Brooklyn is expected to see heavy traffic as drivers are detoured during construction. The Queens-bound BQE will be completely closed from Atlantic Avenue to Sands Street. The Staten Island-bound BQE will be reduced to one lane of traffic between Sands Street and Atlantic Avenue.
In addition, engineering sensors have been installed and periodic inspections are carried out. Vehicle circulation lanes have been restricted at certain points. Studies and discussions on other repairs still need to be carried out until 2031, Pix11 noted.
“We are making critical repairs to the BQE to preserve its useful life while attempting to minimize the impact on the local community,” said DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodríguez. “We will keep the public closely informed about our progress as we plan ahead for this work.”
NYC Ferry has alerted passengers about work and increased ridership. The Metro and buses are travel alternatives.
