Bill de Blasio’s Congressional Race Ends

Bill de Blasio’s Congressional Race Ends, Transatlantic Today

(Washington Insider Magazine)-Bill de Blasio’s Congressional race is coming to a fast end. Announcing via social media on Tuesday, Bill de Blasio has confirmed that he is dropping out of the race for the 10th congressional district in New York, which includes a small part of Manhattan and much of Western Brooklyn.

This news comes after De Blasio has consistently fallen in polls since the pandemic started and has taken criticism for several initiatives, including appointing his wife in control of major initiatives like ThriveNYC, although she has no background experience in politics or running similar initiatives.

In his announcement, de Blasio cited information making it clear that those in the 10th congressional district wanted someone new in office. He said he wanted to step away from race and focus on other ways to serve his country and state.

During the course of Bill de’ Blasio’s Congressional race, he had received unfavorable results in a Working Parties Family poll–showing him as in 7th place with only 3% of votes. This led to de Blasio admitting that he doesn’t have a future in office in the 10th congressional district.

The New York Post took notice of his failed campaign bids and pointed out the excess funds from his runs for office. There’s an estimated $245,000 remaining from his failed gubernatorial bid and $450,000 from his House run.

Some experts say that de Blasio could use this money to pay down a significant amount of debt that he owes to New York City taxpayers for misuse of his security detail during the presidential run in 2020.

More debts to pay would include $425,000 he owes to the law firm that represented him during the probe into his fundraising tactics while Mayor of New York City.

New York is preparing for a new leader in Congress after de Blasio’s dropout, and things aren’t looking so bright at the moment. Monkeypox is spreading across the five boroughs rapidly as rates have doubled since last week and Covid cases are rising as well.

Only time will tell if Bill de Blasio still has a future in politics, but it’s clear that the people of New York are ready for a change and want to see a fresh face in office.
