Biden Gun Control: Coming Soon in 2023?

President Biden is taking measures to stop gun violence in the United States. However, stiff opposition stands in the way of making progress with gun control as Republicans are unlikely to pass such a bill even in light of recent shootings.

Biden Gun Control: Coming Soon in 2023?, Transatlantic Today

(Washington Insider Magazine) -Looking for the latest gun control update? The past few weeks have been difficult for those mourning the losses of nearly a dozen Americans to gun violence and mass shootings in the latest gun control update.

A shooting on November 19 at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado killed five people and ignited the conversation around gun control rights once again. Only a few days later, another shooting at a Walmart in Virginia took place on November 22 and took the lives of seven people, including the gunman.

In light of these recent shootings, President Biden gun control stance has been sought with renewed vigor, as the President is hoping to rally Democrats to help pass gun control legislation. In his words, his goal is to put a stop to these senseless mass shootings in the latest gun control update, which he hopes to roll out on a national scale.

Biden gun control efforts urge Congress to pass a bill to ban assault weapons across the board for American citizens, although such a bill is unlikely to be passed.

Biden claims he is sick and tired of these mass shootings and said that the United States should have more restrictive gun laws that make it difficult for assault rifles to get into the hands of average Americans.

Biden added that it is “sick” that American citizens can buy high-powered firearms without any socially redeeming value. However, his sentiments were received in a mixed fashion with the average American public:

Opposition to Biden’s gun legislation is apparent among Republicans who take over the House of Representatives in January 2023.

The President needs ten or more Republicans in the Senate to vote across party lines for the bill to pass–an unlikely outcome given that the Senate is divided between Republicans and Democrats at an even 50-50 split.

The government’s stalemate doesn’t hide the fact that gun violence is increasing in America.

The CDC published gun violence statistics and found that 2020 was the deadliest year on record for gun violence. Nearly half of the shooting deaths in 2022 were suicides–another problem President Biden hopes to solve with his gun control efforts.

Unfortunately, mass shootings are becoming common in the United States, and there is no simple answer for how to stop them.

President Biden’s goal is to ensure that the American people don’t become numb to the shootings and are compelled to take action in light of recent gun violence in America.
