Belgium (Washington Insider Magazine) – Belgium has approved its largest-ever military aid package to Ukraine, worth €92 million, despite criticism over the age and condition of some equipment.
What’s Included in the Military Aid?
The aid package consists of:
- AMRAAM missiles for air defense
- Light anti-tank weapons (LAW) and anti-tank grenades
- Minimi machine guns and Scar automatic rifles
- 80 Iveco LMV Lynx vehicles & 150 Volvo trucks (being phased out by Belgium’s military)
Belgian Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder assured that all provided equipment is operational and deployable.
What’s Missing?
- No tanks – Belgium lacks stock and couldn’t source operational ones.
- No fighter jets – Ukraine has not requested them from Belgium.
Russian Diamond Trade Concerns
Prime Minister Alexander De Croo highlighted efforts to counter the rerouting of Russian diamond exports through non-European countries. Belgium is collaborating with the EU on new trade restrictions.
