(Washington Insider Magazine) -Despite not giving details in the official statement, different media outlets mentioned that the employee was sucked into the engine, causing an immediate death.
An American Airlines ground crew employee was killed in a crash at the Montgomery Regional Airport in Alabama, airport officials said.
Death of an Employee
According to local media, the man died after being sucked into the engine of an Embraer E175 plane. The airport was closed for hours after the incident, which occurred around 3 p.m. on Saturday the 31st.
“We are devastated by the accident involving a Piedmont Airlines crew member, an American Airlines regional carrier, at Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM),” an American Airlines spokesperson said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and members of our local team. We are focused on ensuring that everyone involved has the support they need during this difficult time,” he continued.
According to reports, the plane is operated by Envoy Air, a subsidiary of American Airlines that flies under the American Eagle brand. The worker, for his part, has been identified as a contractor for Piedmont Air, another subsidiary of American.
The four-year-old aircraft involved in the incident, registration N264NN, was scheduled to take flight AA-3408 from Montgomery to Dallas Ft. Worth at 3:46 p.m. on December 31. The flight was canceled.
