Biden Continues to Affirm Support for Ukraine Amid Crisis

Biden Continues to Affirm Support for Ukraine Amid Crisis, Transatlantic Today

UKRAINE (Washington Insider Magazine) – The Biden Administration has continued to take a unique approach to foreign policy, assuming a more passive role than prior administrations before his time. Currently, President Biden is navigating the intense diplomatic ebbs and flows of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which has led him to open discourse with European allies in NATO regarding the event of further action by President Vladimir Putin.

On Thursday, President Biden visited Brussels to discuss the next steps with European diplomats and allies, affirming the United States’ continued support for Ukrainian sovereignty and freedom. Within these conversations, the president stated that the United States will be accepting thousands of Ukrainian refugees over its borders, and continue to provide millions in humanitarian aid to Ukrainians in need.

Consequently, President Biden also stated that he will be placing additional sanctions throughout the Russian aristocracy and parliament, in an attempt to fiscally weaken the oligarchic structure that continues to fuel Russian defiance.

Biden is attempting to keep his playbook as docile as possible, in order to avoid potential retaliation and intensity from the incensed Russian president. President Vladimir Putin has stated in no uncertain terms that even a single misstep could be tragic for both the United States or any of its NATO allies.

It’s interesting to note that as President Biden has continued his European tour through Brussels and other key locations, dissent grows domestic throughout the United States. Many feel as if his performance is inadequate, and there are still rumblings of unfair elections and corrupted shadow-dictatorships that are overhanging his presidency. While he is widely accepted internationally as the leader of the free world, those at home are still unsure of what to make of his presidency, international activity, or overall handling of the domestic COVID-19 pandemic.

This is likely due to the fact that Americans are under some of the most staggering levels of inflation within their lifetimes, as a Reuters poll found that 54% of Americans currently disapprove of President Biden and his policies. Citizens are beginning to feel the effects of the President’s heavy hand with social programs, initiatives, and free services, most of which are fueled by the ever-rising taxation rates.

Despite the continued support provided by President Biden, the United States, and NATO allies, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy continues to request additional funding, military weaponry, and assets, as well as a NATO-imposed no-fly zone over the territories that Ukraine is currently warring for. He has also repeatedly requested to join NATO, much to the chagrin of President Vladimir Putin. President Putin has stated that Ukraine is not to join NATO, or else dire consequences will ensue for both Ukraine and NATO allies, potentially initiating the true beginning of World War III.

While the U.S. has completely removed Russia as an oil source, European allies are hesitant to do the same. Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz was quoted as saying that to do that would potentially cause a great recession in their countries, as natural resources are limited in the European corridor.
