3 dead and 2 wounded in Amtrak train collision, Transatlantic Today

CALIFORNIA (Washington Insider Magazine) –  Officials said that on Sunday, an Amtrak train smashed a car that was blocking railway tracks near Brentwood, California, resulting in three fatalities and two injuries.

A automobile carrying 5 passengers was hit by a train while trying to cross the tracks at an open railroad crossing, according to the East Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, which stated the event was reported at approximately 1 o’clock.

The fire department reported NBC’s KNTV in San Jose, California, that three persons in the automobile were killed at the site and that 2 others, including a kid, were hurt. According to the report, a youngster was brought to the hospital via ground transportation while one individual was flown there by air ambulance.

The Contra Costa Sheriff’s office is in charge of the investigation into the fatal event, according to the fire department.

Amtrak acknowledged that train 713 had collided with a car that was blocking the track near Knightsen in a statement provided to NBC News.

It stated that none of the 89 passengers or staff members on board the train had suffered any injuries. According to Amtrak, the train was delayed for approximately 3 hours as officials looked into the incident.

In order to examine the event, the business claimed it was collaborating with regional law enforcement and BNSF Railway, the track owner.

Amtrak made no immediate comments on the incident-related fatalities.

Moreover, referencing the Federal Railroad Administration, it claimed that railway crossing accidents were the second-leading cause of rail-related deaths in the United states, while trespassing on railroad tracks rights-of-way was the first.

According to officials, two persons were killed in Houston in April when a car carrying them slammed into an Amtrak train while attempting to overtake the train at a railway crossing.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office claimed in a statement that the driver of the car in that collision drove past the crossing arms warning an incoming train before hitting it.

On collision, the automobile burst into flames, and both the driver and the passenger were thrown from it. Authorities said that both were declared dead at the spot.
