NEW YORK (Washington Insider Magazine)- National Missile Defense is a missile defense that aims at protecting the entire country against missiles. It includes intercontinental ballistic missiles or ballistic missiles. The US Missile Defence System is in development since 1990. They renamed this program in 2002 that is not just restricted to ground-based mid-course defense receptors and other facilities. This program may have a limited scope but is designed to counter a small ICBM attack. However, it is not a shield against larger attacks or adversaries.
Does The US Have A Missile Defense System?
The United States has a particular Missile Defense System. It includes three short-range tactical anti-ballistic missile systems. They all are currently operational and boast of the U.S. Army Patriot and Navy Aegis combat systems. This involves the SM-2 missile, the arms race, and the Israeli Arrow missile as well. Generally, there is a short-range tactical ABMs. However, they cannot intercept any ICBMs even when within the same or long range.
The US has a limited capacity to deal with nuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles and ICBMs. A recent study has revealed a lot about the Missile Defence Agency MDA. Nearly after four decades, they have been successful in having a defense system of their own. Some experts believe that the new US Missile launches and defense Tests may increase the risk of nuclear war.
President Ronald Reagan came up with a great idea during the nuclear attack in 1983. Here is what he revealed:
“What if free people could live secure in the knowledge that their security did not rest upon the threat of instant US retaliation to deter a Soviet attack, that we could intercept and destroy strategic ballistic missiles before they reached our soil or that of our allies?”
What Missile Defense Does The US Have?
Every country must have a missile defense and protect its national security. The USA has to give a supplement to the ground-based inceptors. They also have a ballistic missile defense system to protect all the small areas. The cruise missiles are designed to keep the water area safe and secure.
Another important system is Aegis Ashore which can easily fire missiles from the Navy Ships. It can even work as a land-based launcher to target both medium and short-range ballistic missiles. When it comes to air defense, some other measures are taken to solve everything. Many experts believe that the national defense missile system of the US is in no way near Russia and China.

Can The US Defend Against Nuclear Missiles?
According to the latest publication by the American Physical Society, the US has a limited capacity to destroy a nuclear intercontinental ballistic missile. It may not seem difficult to halt an atomic weapon but in reality, it can be a bigger challenge to handle.
No doubt, the invasion of Ukraine by Russia is making things even more difficult. This level of threat is not seen since the time of the Cold War. The defense system of the US will become better with a lot more hard work. It may take more than 15 years to achieve everything successfully.
The Aegis has a powerful radar along with a computer. It is an integrated naval combat system that is useful for tracking all upcoming threats. Moreover, it will guide every weapon to destroy the targets coming from the enemy.
This system is now upgraded to deal with ballistic missiles as well. Nowadays North Korea is turning out to be a big threat to everyone, especially the USA. It has become necessary to have a reliable national defense missile system.
How Effective Is The US Missile Defense System?
A new study has revealed that the US missile defence system came into being after 70 years. They have made an investment worth $350 billion. However, no system that is developed so far is effective against ICBM threats. Some experts are divided over this opinion though, a no conclusion can be made.
If the North Korean strike is examined and it is built on a futuristic approach. The directed energy weapons and space-based interceptors are made with the best materials. The US needs to work harder and build a system that can cope with all kinds of threats. According to a new revelation:
“Creating a reliable and effective defense against the threat posed by even the small number of relatively unsophisticated nuclear-armed ICBMs that it considers remains a daunting challenge. “The difficulties are numerous, ranging from the unresolved countermeasures problem for midcourse-intercept to the severe reach-versus-time challenge of boost-phase intercept’’.
